Heavy Civil Estimator

The Estimator is responsible for preparing complex civil construction bids across a diverse range of infrastructure projects. Typical scopes of work include highway and roadway construction, municipal street improvements, utility installation, site development, and water/wastewater treatment facilities. This role plays a key part in the pre-construction process by producing accurate quantity takeoffs, detailed cost estimates, and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze bid documents to prepare accurate and timely estimates for projects valued up to $25 million.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop material lists using industry estimating software.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing and supporting documentation.
- Participate in site visits and pre-bid meetings as required.
- Communicate with owners, subcontractors, and public agencies to ensure scope completeness and competitive pricing.
- Assist in developing preliminary project schedules to evaluate project feasibility and workload capacity.
- Lead internal bid review meetings with estimating and management teams.
- Support project handoff meetings and participate in post-project evaluations.
- Prepare documentation related to good faith effort and compliance requirements.
- Assist with subcontractor and supplier buyout activities alongside project management teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating department.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil or highway construction.
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and industry-standard estimating practices.
- Familiarity with public infrastructure standards and disadvantaged business compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with construction estimating and takeoff software platforms.
