Geotechnical Project Manager - Railroad Division

An established engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Project Manager to join its growing Railroad Division. This is an exciting opportunity to lead high-profile geotechnical projects across the United States, supporting major railroad, bridge, dam, levee, and transportation infrastructure projects.

As a senior technical leader, you will oversee complex geotechnical projects from planning through delivery, providing technical expertise, managing client relationships, and supporting business growth. You'll also mentor engineering teams while helping shape the future of geotechnical services on projects nationwide. This is a fully remote opportunity with travel as required.

Location

This is a remote position based anywhere within the United States. The successful candidate will work closely with established geotechnical teams located across the Southeast, providing support on railroad and transportation projects throughout the country. Occasional travel will be required for client meetings, site visits, and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex geotechnical engineering projects from inception through completion, ensuring delivery on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Manage field investigations, subsurface explorations, laboratory testing programs, and construction observation activities.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, proposals, and other project documentation.
  • Collaborate with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and project stakeholders to develop practical and innovative geotechnical solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and project teams.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement strategies to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Support business development initiatives by assisting with proposals, client engagement, and project pursuits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • 12+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, including project management responsibilities.
  • Previous experience delivering railroad infrastructure projects is essential.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain licensure in the near term.
  • Experience using geotechnical engineering software such as AutoCAD, GeoStudio, LPILE, or similar programs.
  • Strong understanding of transportation and railroad design and construction standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and client relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Willingness to travel throughout the United States as required
