Gardener
Location: Merthyr Tydfil (working across cemeteries in Newport)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Pay Rate: £13.26 - £13.69 per hour (paid weekly)
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Gardener to join our team, primarily undertaking grass-cutting and general grounds maintenance work across cemeteries in Newport. The role requires a proactive individual who can work with minimal supervision and use their own initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out a wide range of gardening and grounds maintenance duties
- Grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mowers
- Operating hand tools including strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and other relevant equipment
- Marking football fields
- Repairs and maintenance of fine turf and playing surfaces
- Litter picking and emptying bins
- Assisting the Arboriculture (Arbo) team when required
- Driving vehicles and towing trailers (subject to appropriate qualifications)
- Soil cultivation including digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, and weeding
- Clearing, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation, and planting
- Lawn maintenance and cultivation
- Assisting with landscape construction projects
- Seasonal bedding removal and planting
- Ensuring all tools, equipment, and machinery are well maintained, with any defects reported promptly
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in gardening, including grass cutting and shrub work, within parks or housing estates
- NVQ in Horticulture
Skills & Attributes
- Strong working knowledge of gardening equipment and hand tools
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team

This position is guaranteed for the next 4 weeks and is highly likely to be extended.
